Now there are two great places to learn underwater filmmaking, videography, editing and post production the right way.  Emmy Award winning Underwater Cinematographer Frazier Nivens and award-winning shark wrangler Stuart Cove of Stuart Coves Dive Bahamas, based in Coral Harbour, Nassau, Bahamas.  Capt. Spencer Slate of Captain Slates Scuba Adventures in the beautiful Florida Keys will also offer the Underwater Cinematography Immersion Training.

Captain Spencer Slate and Capt. Slates Scuba Adventures is known for his Creature Feature encounters with his group of Green Moray Eels and the Shark Swim at Spanky’s reef giving you plenty of imaging opportunities to capture some amazing footage.   Frazier films with Captain Slate every Friday and Sunday on his Creature Feature Shark and Eel Encounters.

Frazier Nivens is a  former PADI Course Director and world renowned multiple Emmy and Telly Award Winning underwater filmmaker.  Frazier takes you beyond the normal underwater video courses. He will help you to achieve motion imaging that will be beautiful and colorful, creating a fully edited underwater work of art.  The program is open to all skill levels; Go Pro, DSLR, high definition video and RED Digital Cinema cameras. You should be comfortable while diving and have great buoyancy control prior to participating in this program for best results.

The Underwater Cinematography Immersion motion imaging training is what you need to know to film and edit your underwater footage and includes your classroom instruction, Stuart Cove’ s world famous “Shark Arena" or “Ray of Hope” wreck shark dive, “Creature Feature” eel and shark encounters and wreck dives daily with Frazier and hands on instruction in the beautiful crystal clear blue waters of the Bahamas or Florida Keys.  There is no better underwater motion imaging course available anywhere. Learn the tips and techniques from a professional that shoots underwater movies every day. Frazier produces television programming for Discovery Channel, Shark Week, Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, National Geographic, ABC, CBS, NBC, Food Network, History Channel, BBC, Granada TV and many more.

Frazier will take you beyond the basics and teach you what you really need to know to get great images with your existing camera system, or help you purchase and choose a great system to fit your needs prior to the program.  We will dive in depth into your own camera system, whether it be GoPro, DSLR, Video or RED Digital Cinema Ultra High Definition, we will teach you what you need to know to get the most out of your system. The Professional Underwater Cinematography Immersion Program courses consist of but may be customized to fit your particular needs but a minimum would consist of: 2-1/2 days of classroom instruction, the basics, how to use your specific camera system if you own one prior to beginning your training and 6-Open Water filming Dives with Frazier.  Powerpoint and Video presentations of examples of techniques.

1/2 to a full day of introduction in post production editing using the latest editing software, Adobe Premiere Pro CC2024, Adobe Media Encoder, Photoshop, After Effects, how to use Mogerts and video templates, add music and VoiceOver tracks and much more.   You will also edit your own dive video and output it to HD video movies during this course on one of Frazier's video editing stations in his 3-edit bay video suite.

School of Underwater Photography

Frazier Nivens has studied photography for many years and started taking underwater photos in 1967 when he first began diving with a Nikonos II underwater camera and Nikonos Bulb Flash.  Frazier now uses state of the art digital underwater imaging equipment and uses a Canon R5C in a Nauticam Housing with lighting by Big Blue Dive Lights and Ikelite Substrobes.

The Professional Digital Underwater Photography Course consists of: 3-1/2 days of classroom workshops and Powerpoint presentations covering everything from the basics if you need them to include advanced shooting techniques. Frazier will customize the course to fit your needs. Close focus wide angle/macro/ techniques will be shown and you’ll work with your existing equipment or rental underwater camera equipment to perfect your techniques. A post dive Photoshop and Lightroom workshop in how to make the most of your underwater photography digital will also be conducted.. There will be 3-1/2 days of two tank dives where you will practice your skills underwater under Frazier’s helpful observation. Constructive positive critique will be given on each image after each dive with suggestions for improvement given for the next dive.

Professional Underwater Cinematography Immersion Program.

The Professional Digital or Film Underwater Photography Course consists of:

3-1/2 days of classroom workshops covering everything from the basics if you need them to include advanced shooting techniques.  Frazier will customize the course to fit your needs.  Close focus wide angle/macro/ techniques will be shown and you’ll work with your existing equipment or rental underwater camera equipment to perfect your techniques.  A post dive Photoshop and Aperture workshop in how to make the most of  your underwater photography digital or film imaging will also be conducted..  There will be 3- 1/2 days of two tank dives where you will practice your skills underwater under Frazier’s helpful observation.  Constructive positive critique will be given on each image after each dive with suggestions for improvement given for the next dive.  Final Graduation certificate and either the PADI Underwater Photography Specialty Diver or Instructor certification* will be awarded upon successful completion of all requirements for that program.  (*For PADI Underwater Photography Specialty Instructor certification call for details, additional requirements will be required for this program.  You must be a current certified PADI Open Water Instructor for this program.

More About Frazier Nivens

Frazier Nivens has been in the diving industry most of his life. He began at an early age imitating Lloyd Bridges character on the popular underwater adventure series “Sea Hunt” by swimming through the make believe cave “coffee table” with his mask, ping pong ball snorkel, fins, and wet suit “footy pajamas” and dreaming of the underwater adventures in his future.  “I purchased my first regulator, tank, wetsuit and underwater camera all at the same time when I read a book that taught me how to dive and made my very first dives at a lake in Tennessee”.   Today he’s now an active teaching status PADI Course Director #4041 living in Key Largo, Florida and has been a PADI member for over 50 years.

Frazier Nivens, shot his first underwater video in 1984 in Rum Cay Bahamas with a housing made of plexiglass, a couple of O rings and a huge full size VHS video camera. Frazier was there at the start up of the diving operation, Rum Cay Diving Club in Rum Cay, Bahamas back in 1979 and was the Director of Diving Operations there
